Heart Health Month and Your Skin

by | Feb 2, 2016 | Healthy Eating

FEBRUARY  is known as Heart Health month. Nothing is more important than maintaining a healthy heart. It all begins with a healthy lifestyle.

  • Healthy Eating
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Maintaining weight
  • Exercise
  • Stress reduction

Not only are all the above healthy for the heart, they are all healthy for your skin!

When you eat healthy your body functions more efficiently and that provides a healthy glow to your skin.

Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated is even more important.

According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.”  (The USGS Water Science School)

Maintaining a healthy weight keeps not only heart issues away it alleviates diseases such as diabetes.

Exercise is always important not only to stay fit but also to help keep our circulation moving and increasing blood flow to all parts of our body including our skin. When circulation is sluggish it shows on the skin by having a sallow dull appearance.

Stress reduction is probably the most difficult to overcome. Stress comes in all areas of life. Learn to control your stress. There are many ways to do this whether its by meditation, exercise, reading, a hike in the woods, sitting by a lake, whatever makes you feel calm just take the time to do it! There’s really no excuse for having a little “me” time.
